I have been running ATItool to overclock my vid card. The program crashed while I was overclocking. Now it won't run and always crashes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but no luck.

Even if you uninstalled it, atitool leaves a bunch of stuff in the registry. Can somebody tell me how to fully get rid of it in the registry using regedit? My knowledge of regedit is almost nil and I don't want to screw my system up.

thanks.

First thing to do is after you uninstall, check the directory where the program was installed and see what's left. Sometimes they have leftovers. Delete the whole directory and reinstall.

Also...when it crashes, does it reference a .dll file? If so, research that .dll and see what it is used for and if it's just that program, you can delete it and it will install a new copy. A lot of times programs just leave .dll files hanging around after uninstall and during install when it goes to copy, it doesn't replace it.

Do all that before you go messing in the registry.

And, after uninstalling, you might want to download and install Eusing Registry Cleaner - it is free and does an outstanding job.

Update: I was told by one of the fellows that run MajorGeeks.com that he uses Crap Cleaner (CCleaner - everyone should have this in their tool kit - just uncheck all the Cookies items as it will remove them ALL (the good ones along with the bad). Let your anti-spyware tools remove just the hinky cookies. A lot of cookies are there to make your browsing sessions easier) for cleaning everything including the registry after uninstalling a program. He says it works as well as most specialized removal tools. But he is looking to add the Eusing registry tool to the MG site too as they already have other Eusing tools listed there. I have used CCleaner for a long time (it was recently updated) but I'll try the Eusing tool when MG gets it.
