Regarding Win XP.

I'm thinking of getting Win Xp but don't like the idea of this activation code I hear about. From what I can tell when you install Win ZP you have to ask MS for a code or the OS will stop working after a certain number of boots, is that correct?
Also, if you add more hardware past a certain limit (3 I think) then you have to again ask MS for permission to re-activated the OS.

This sounds annoying. I'm familiar with the 'underworld' of PC software and so I'd like to know if it's possible to stop this activation code stuff? Can you get a crack for the OS or perhaps a pre-cracked version of the OS?

I'd assume that what with Win XP being so new and there being incompatibilities with different software/hardware that it's essential you update using windows update every now and again. Does this still work if you've got a 'tampered' version of the OS, or do the updates fix the 'tampered' version when you install them?

Anyone help me answer these questions?
