What is the need for all these new weapons? What drives an army like the american army towards coming up with things such as this?
What paranoid persons are behind an ever evolving weaponry, and wtf are they doing it for?

Someone should take a look at the american army and remove the paranoid leaders.

In all fairness, these dolphins are apparently a Navy asset, not an Army one.

This is certainly a bizarre story, but I guess if the Navy is able to train and arm dolphins, more power to 'em.

I'm not sure if they should be doing as much research or development or not, but I suppose it's always better to be prepared should such a situation come. Most of the entire world does weapons research and development as well as purchasing weapons. Is everyone paranoid?

But this is further development towards sharks with lasers on their heads.

Hehe, friggin laser beams!

But you know, seriously, i can't see what they'll ever need these for? Are they expecting the soviet block to reform and attack the US? We are not living in that kind of world anymore.
am fascinated (if not scared) by the american paranoia clearly present in the army. Which was also clearly behind the hunt for commies, and are now the reason for bush's re-election.

I prefer ill-tempered sea bass, myself.

I'm not a military man/boy. So keep forgetting the army is not the general term :).

They didn't want me in the army as i have allergies.

Its that damn insidious Denmark we have to defend against.

But seriously, the Navy has been using dolphins in various roles for decades. Though I doubt that the navy has them swimming around "armed" with weapons 24/7/365 in their tanks.

I'm sure that people didn't think about other conflicts 20 years before they actually happened. Why stop your research and development and let the rest of the world catch up?

But then again, most of the world does weapons development and/or purchasing. Is everyone paranoid?

Yes i'm tempted to say.
Some people fail to see how much mass media has changed the world.

I highly suspect that all those "Cookie tins" are merely a ploy to hide the fact that Denmark is stockpiling munitions! ;)
