Hi all! (first post)

I've been thinking on changing some of the parts in my puter next month (yeah it's really needed)

I'm getting a new mobo, cpu and a graphics card..

I currently have;
Msi K7N2 Mobo
Amd Xp 2500+ barton core.
Ati radeon 9700 pro.

I've been looking on getting that new asus motherboard (Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe), the AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Cpu.. But i'm not sure about the graphics card.

I use my computer constantly and mostly for gaming but i dont really have a large budget..

So i wonder if i should go with the X2 cpu and like a Radeon x1800 GTO.. Or get a cheaper cpu (i'd like dualcore though ;p) and a better graphicscard?

Should i get a cheaper motherboard without RD580 to keep costs low? As most people i want my system to keep up with the games for atleast a year or two.

I'm stationed in sweden so hm.. Yeah well i don't want to end up with stuff costing more than ~700 euro. As i said, im on a low budget.

How much of a difference is there between the x1800XT/XL and GTO? I haven't researched much but when i check at sites where i usually buy computer-parts i see theres price-difference.. but performance-wise?

Oh and yeah, will the X1800 benefit from RD580? or what will?

It's been so long since i bought computer-parts i'm not really that updated anymore.

Regards,
Accela.

You're wasting money on a high end motherboard, save the cash there and get a faster GPU.

You can save at least $80 on the motherboard, that's enough to get you a 7900GT at the least.

For performance difference your best bet is somewhere like Tom's VGA charts.

Check out something like this..

AMD Athlon X2 3800+
DFI LanParty UT nF4 Ultra-d
eVGA 7900GT
2x1GB Corsair ValueSelect
Western Digital, Seagate, or Hitachi hard drive of your choice
Fortron 450W should be sufficient
case of your choice with 120mm exhaust fan and 80/120mm intake fan
dvd burner of your choice

In your budget, are you taking into account the $ you can get from selling your cpu, mobo, and vidcard? That is, if you won't be re-using those parts at all.

Thanks for the replies, i will check into it.
Although i'm pretty sure i won't get me a nvidia. I've been a ati-fanboy for too long.

I won't be needing memory, harddrives or anything else. Just cpu/mobo/gfx.

So basicly cut back on the mobo and get a cheaper one? Will something like the DFI motherboard (or similar with xfire support) be useful for a long time? i.e if i want to go crossfire?

Thanks in advance!

No not atm i'm not. as my parts are outdated i will most likely just save em as everything else for a future server or something.

But yeah if i get someone who's interested i might be able to sell em off pretty cheap.

The thing is that i'll prolly have to borrow some money from my girlfriend in order to have enough for the three parts. (being unemployed just isn't really that great for the economy :p)

Checking around it seems as the 7900GT beats the X1800-series.. I might concider going nvidia again but i will have to go for a cheaper motherboard then and possible a none-dualcore cpu.

Is dualcore really overrated? I like the idea of like, streaming a movie to my tv while i play games..

So uhm, what will be a nice motherboard for the gfx and cpu? at a low price that is..
I checked out the DFI but here in sweden it was quite expensive..
Oh and yeah, is it really necessary to pay those extra bucks just to get an overclocked version of the graphics card? I mean it should be something i can do on my own if i want to right? The prices from the regular XFX 7900 GT card and the overclocked ones is almost 60 bucks.. Which in my opinion is too much to pay for something i can do on my own.

Thanks in advance for all the answers!

Dual core does help in many ways, but for gaming it's not nessisary.

Get a single graphics card board, A8NE should be around $100, the epox 9na ultra should be within spitting distance of that too. I wouldn't bother with the overclocked version if cash is tight.

Alright thanks for the feedback! I currently don't know how much money i will actually have by the end of next month but atleast now i got some options. The more expensive MSI motherboard that "just got out" appealed to me alot! But not the price..

I'm afraid not. But she do have three brothers if you swing both ways :p
