I was at my IIS class tonight (boring) and was talking to my friend and he mentioned a virus he found last week on his computers at work. He started going into detail about it and guess what, it's the DNet virus that was mentioned last week on the .plan. I asked him to bring it in to me to look at, specifically the e-mail addy being used. I'm hoping I don't find a Virgedx@home.com =)

Actually, I think that worm had a bymer@xxxxxx.xxx e-mail address. This guy wasn't as smart as our phantom flusher at hiding his tracks, so DNet has already disqualified all his blocks and set a filter to prevent any more from coming in....

JHutch,

No, I figured it would be the person. I was just trying to give ViRGE a hard time. =)

Oh, well, I'm all for giving Virge a hard time... Just let me step aside so you can get a clear shot! :)

jinsonxu:

The Phantom Flusher is (probably) a trojan/virus that someone unleashed, but programmed with enough "smarts" to rotate the mail ID on each new infection. So that instead of the rapid rise in one ID that is common with a normal trojan, there were many, many ids (mostly people in this forum) that had an unexplained steady rise. The really "smart" part of the trojan is that it seemed to "stop" infecting a certain e-mail id once around 20k blocks a day was reached. No one is sure how this was pulled off. Heck, we're not even sure it really was a trojan, but we're pretty sure.

Some of us are still getting blocks from the PhF (I'm getting about 15-17k a day). It was neat for a while, but in the long run, most of us just wish it would go away!

JHutch,

That's an interesting theory on the trojan. A smart virus?!? That might make it harder to track this beast down. It's spread to some of the SysOpt and DPC members too, but not to the degree that we have.

Thanks for moving aside as well. So much easier to hit ViRGE then. =)

Yeesh, if you guys are going to pick on me, at least do it when I can steal DanC's trout and smack you back.;)

/me smacks Jay with Russ, since DanC's trout is in him ;)

PS Jay, the "Smart Trojan" has been the working idea for a while, and it seems to have held :(

Wow! Seems like a massive assimilation without the owners knowing. But what good does it do to the creater? It only helps RC5's rate and spoils the competition.
