Im looking to upgrade the ram on my comp and im wondering what would work best for the price

currently all i have is 1 stick 256 generic kingston ddr ram, nothin fancy

Im wondering if it would be better to buy, say, another few sticks of the cheap stuff to get around 7 to a gig of ram - or would it be better to get 512 or so of quality ram, along with the 256 - or if its better to get just a bit more of the quality ram and sell the generic stuff.

any helps appreciated, thx

You got me on the "7 to a gig of ram". How much is that?

What speed is that RAM and do you think you'll be building a new sytem anytime soon? If so you might be better off getting less RAM but that which will run at a higher speed like PC3200...in case down the line you want to upgrade your rig. In which case you could pirate the faster RAM out of it and sell off the old rig.

sorry, i have a bad habit of confusing ppl:( what i meant by "7 to a gig of ram" is 768 to 1024 megs of ram.

I cant check what the ram is right now, the other computers in use - and it didnt say on the package what speed it is, but it was the cheapest stuff you could get when my bro went to get it so i assume its nothing special. No, i dont plan on upgrading my comp anytime soon, so it would help me the most if you could reccomend what ram to get to last me for a fair while with what i have right now.

In that case I'd just get more of what you already have. On sale w/rebate you're not looking at much for Kingston value or say Centon at CC or even crucial.
I'd avoid k-byte.
Depending on what OS you are using going from 256 to 512 can be a help.
If you are running Windows XP or W2K then OK. 98SE, it won't get you much of a boost.
