regain DirectX functions in Vista

Greetings,

I have an appplication I desperately need that I wrote using MS-Access 2002 -
VBA - and DirectX8.
DirectX8 could access DirectInput8 as it was part of DirectX8. DirectInput8
allowed me access to the button states on a gamepad or joystick.
DirectX10 No longer includes DirectInput.

Is there anyway to regain this functionality?
