personally, i love viewsonic monitors, been using them for years, never had one die, refurbished could be a problem, only 90day warranty.

I don't really understand why people are still buying non-flat screen CRTs personally. Trust me, it's an entirely different viewing experience, even if you have to settle for a 19 incher.

We have a couple dozen G810s at work, half of which (so far) we've had to return for warranty service in less than a year because of a vertical bar that formed on the right side of the screen.

We're generally happy with the performance, and the warranty service was prompt, but I would not buy one of these without at least a year warranty (standard warranty on these is 3 years). Some of our monitors are just showing the defect after about a year - half have shown nothing, but I'm not hopeful.

Just FYI.

Edit: I should note that none of the warranty-replacements (many of which are refurbs) have shown any defects.

Some of us just can't stand the two rows of dead pixels on flat screens. I had one at my last job and it was annoying. I'll keep my beveled glass CRT and the all money I saved.

he mean NON-FLAT CRTs (Flat Screen CRTs), Not LCDs. Flat Screen CRT's dont have any pixels. I recently upgraded from a regular 19" CRT to a 19" Flat Screen CRT and really love the difference.

I know precisely what he meant. Clearly you are having difficulty understanding me. I worked for Planar before they moved production overseas and can tell the difference between a flat screen CRT and a flat panel LCD. What I was talking about is the two lines present on flat glass CRT monitors. Here is a quote from the Sony website:

"A thin horizontal line is visible on either the top or bottom third of the screen."
"The thin horizontal line that is visible with light background on a Trinitron® monitor, is a shadow of the aperture grille damper wire. The function of the damper wire is to keep the wires that make up the aperture grille from vibrating."

So, I was incorrect. They aren't actually dead, just a shadow. My good friend uses one of these monitors and every time I use his PC my eyes are immediately drawn to the two dark lines.

Also, if "Flat Screen CRT's dont have any pixels" how do they display an image?

Buy shadow mask...they are flat CRT's without the lines. Problem solved....

Both you guys are confused.

Those are not "dead pixels" What they are, are very thin wires that hold the aperture grille in place.

However, that is only on paerture grille monitors. Flat Screen Shadow Mask Monitors do not have these lines.

I used to have a Samsung 955df. Though it was a "flat-screen" the tube was of course still curved.
So it really didn't matter, the image was still displayed on a curved surface.

I'm staring at the pixels on my crt right now! Hiwever there are 2 lines where I don't see any pixels. If I squint and know where to look. I'd rather stop and smell the roses, though.

exactly, the lines dont bother me, which is why i have a monitor with them. Those lines are only on apeture grill monitors, shadow mask monitors do not have this but are still flat crt

I Love my Sony E500, the apeture grill lines don't bother me what so ever, i had a shadow mask monitor but it wasn't a flat screen one. it really hurt my eyes after a few hours. Now i can be on one for hours. PS i want a 18 or 19" LCD to take advantage of my DVI output on my 9700 Pro video card. But for about 600 dollar price range, it is still a little to much for me right now. I have heard that playing games on a LCD. is not as enjoyable as my CRT. I'll find out sometime. when prices on a 19" dell or planar drop some.
