refurbished video cards

I'm thinking about buying a refurbished 6600GT from newegg.. is there any reason I shouldn't? I'm making the assumption that they're returns that have been fried somehow and have had all their parts replaced that may have been affected. Anyone running one that's had problems? any without?

i had a 9800 pro i bought about a month ago for 113 shipped from neweggs refurb section. it worked perfectly, flashed it to 9800 xt and all was good. sold it for 120 here at anandtech.

also keep in mind u wont get anything but the card in a white box.

i would say go for it...absolutely nothing wrong in getting a refurbished card...only thing is that u would get all the extras(ie cables, cds etc)...

other than the cables, what else is important in the box? everything including the contents of the CD should be downloadable, right? I haven't looked into it too far, but I'd assume that they carry the full factory warranty too, which is a consideration if it's not. On another thread, someone is trying to convince me that the x700pro would be a wiser choice. Your thoughts?

At least with Newegg, sometimes you get the whole package, sometimes you don't. Things you might be missing:

Shiny and colorful box, DVI->VGA adapter(s), S-Video cables, S-Video->RCA adapters, Component Output adapters (included with some cards), manual, driver CD, any bundled software (games, DVD player software, etc.), VIVO cables (ie, for RADEON AIW cards -- you need the cable to use the VIVO features!), remote control (again, with AIW-type cards).

Usually there is no warranty on refurbs, although some manufacturers will still give warranty coverage. Newegg gives you, I think, two weeks to return it (so you can try it out and make sure it works), and after that you're on your own with them.

It can be a good deal -- that's where I got my last video card, and it worked fine -- but it can also be a hassle if they send you a dead or flaky card and you have to ship it back.

Hhhmmm... that's disturbing (about the warranty). If that's the case, it makes a new x700pro a lot more appealing.
