An ad for the local Fry's (SF Bay Area) lists a refurbished Umax Astra 3400 scanner for $39.00.
I really want to get a cheap scanner and don't want the hassle of waiting 5 months for rebates to come back, so I figured this was as cheap as I could reasonably find. Plus it's a pretty good scanner.
What scares me is the refurbished/Fry's part as I've heard scary things about open-box items from Fry's. And I'm not quite sure what "refurbished" exactly means...
But heck, it's only $39. Would you go for it or avoid like the plague?
