Refurbished SSDs ?

Just what is a refurbished SSD ?
From what I was told by OCZ, all the units that get sent back to them (for RMA) get destroyed, but now, I see these on the egg...

Are these just Newegg returns, or what ?
I know that the prices are still pretty poor compared to new units, and these also have a terrible warranty of 90 days...

Destroying RMA units makes no sense, especially because a lot of those returns were probably because of bad Sandforce FW.

Not sure who'd buy these things at these prices. Makes no sense. Maybe Newegg will heavily discount them eventually?

Yes, I really doubt OCZ "destroys" RMAed SSDs. What else would they use to send out for RMAs? Surely they don't send new units all the time.

In fact, they do, they send out new units, at least, every time I had to RMA something back to them, I got a new unit in return.

Problem with refurbs / returns are, there is no real way to tell how much data has been written on them. I guess that explains the 90 day warranty though.

Doesn't mean they destroy the returned unit. They probably had a bunch of returned inventory that had the controller reset with the latest FW. They can't turn it around and sell the drive as 'new' because of the wear on the NAND so it's "refurbished". It's just weird that they waited THIS long to try to sell them.
