Refurbished SD Card From Newegg?

So I'm looking for ATOT's opinion on the matter; I'm looking to pick up a SD card, and Newegg has a good deal on a refurbished version of it. I really haven't seen any opinions on refurbished flash memory(versus video cards and the like), so what do you guys think, should I go for it?

SD cards are so cheap after rebates; why not just get a new one and be sure that your data will be secure? Refurbished storage devices are never a good idea, IMHO.

Because it's not a big deal if I have to return it, and I'm a cheapass.😛

Sniper: 1GB, about 30% off.

How the hell do you refurbish a memory card? Very likely it was simply returned with the packaging damaged, should be fine.

Sure because if it's refurb=used then use recovery on it - what you may find on it can be worth much more than the difference IF you catch my drift. 😉

The standard sandisk cards like the Dell acessory one linked are pretty pokey so be careful there if you need snappy response times.

well the only ones i see costs at least $40. although i've had good experiences with newegg refurbs, a new one goes for about $40 if you shop around...

Ya, I normally wouldn't even think of going refurb, but I'm going to use it in a device that only has so-so compatibility with specific SD cards, and it needs to be some sort of high speed memory(at least 60x), so I can't go with the dirt cheap retail stuff here. Thanks for the input though, I've got all weekend so I'll probably sleep on it.

Well so much for that, the card came DOA and in pretty poor condition too(parts of the plastic were broken away, like someone tried to clean it with an acid😱). What's the cheapest way to ship a SD card back to Newegg? 😛

Have you heard of something called "first class mail"? It's 0.39 stamp and I'm sure the little SD card won't be more than 1 ounce.

But I still don't know why you went with a refurb card. How much did you pay? B/c you can get a 1GB Sandisk Ultra II for $49AR from fry's.

And I have seen many other 1GB SD cards for $40ish.

It was $40 on the dot; I'm in the middle of nowhere at the moment so I don't have easy access to a Fry's or similar store. And yes, I know of first class mail.😛 Newegg will deny the RMA if I don't send the module back in their little bubble though, so I'll have to do something like flat-rate priority.

That's a bummer, not having major retailers near you.
