refurbished phones from cell phone carriers

is it worth to pay $100+ to get a new phone over a refurbished one?

I bought a refurb iphone 3G 2 years ago and it's held up better than new. It's outlived two friends' NEW phones they got around the same time. I just now got an iphone 4 only because I could, not because I was having problems with the old one. IMO refurbs are some of the best deals out there.
