Refurbished monitors

they can be... depending on the warranty given with em... if you get the same warranty as a new monitor, go for it..

I agree with samgau, it really depends on the warranty. I had 2 refurbished monitors of the same type (Gateway EV900) die on me, the second one was out of the warranty period.

Just buy a new monitor and dont worry about it. my current monitor is the Samsung 955DF and i like it a lot.

Gateway EV900 is notoriously bad, I wouldn't buy one of those new or refurbished!

I've been using a refurbished Gateway EV700 for almost 3 years with no problems at all. It was half the price of a new one, but only had a 90 day warranty. Still, it cost less than a 14" monitor at the time, so I took a chance, and it paid off.

I wouldn't buy a refurb monitor unless it was from a local store, so I could go on a rampage if it failed after like 94 days. Shipping defective stuff back to online sellers is too much work and expense.

Gateway has a VERY nice VX920 that you could probably find somewhere refurbished. It has a flat, diamondtron screen, and it looks awesome!!!!

Matsushita (Panasonic, some Viewsonics) sent me one of their refurbished monitors, and it arrived with two internal wires left unconnected (one a safety ground) and a base so badly cracked that it couldn't support the monitor. This damage didn't occur in shipping but at the factory, before the monitor was put in box.
