I'm thinking of purchasing a mobo that is half-price because it is refurbished. In you experiences, is it worth the risk?

Also, some manufacturers offer RMA services. The mobo I'm thinking about buying is an Abit mobo, any experience with their RMA service?

thanks,

Abit is a good choice, especially if your refurb doesn't come with a backplate. You can order those directly from abit for $4 plus shipping. I returned one board to abit about 2 years ago, and it took almost 3 weeks for the new one to arrive (during holiday season). I don't know if they will replace a refurb mobo. The new ones come with a 3 year warranty. I just rma'd an albatron refurb board, and they sent me a new one in less than 2 weeks.

I purchased a refurbished Asus A7N8X deluxe (revision 2) mobo and found that the first owner had apparently flashed the BIOS with the Revision 1 BIOS. It would run but the CPU was fixed at Athlon 1100 and the fsb at 266. DROVE ME NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Apparently they just make sure they work, not that they work correctly.

I returned it (for a healthy restocking fee) and got a Chaintech 7NJS Zenith Ultra. Love it to death.

Will NOT do that again!!!!!
