Performance / Watt (vs other options) & cost of memory (I think it requires ECC, but didn't double check) may be some hidden costs with this.

potentially a nice setup for a server

this combo - $59
4x512 ECC - $130
SATA Card - $50
2x750GB drives - $160

so for $400 yo uhvae a nice server, throw some ESXi on there and you got a few machines you can carve out of it .

Good deal IMO...

Isn't this basically 2 really slow P4 2.4ghz processors with really slow RAM? Why would you want to use this for a server over something like P35/Q6600 apart from the official "server" designation?

Yea, why spend $1M on a server grade box when you can have "the same" stuff for less than $800.

Seggybop asks a reasonable question. I went from a dual xeon (603) intel server setup to a plain jane core2duo server because the core2duo setup just works, and it takes off-the-shelf components. I ran the exact same hard drive and ubuntu linux on both of them and the core2duo did a better job and is more reliable. It's been running for months without a hiccup.

Maybe for datacenters or uber-redundant ssl servers you might use a dual xeon server board that requires ecc, but for your every day average single server solution you don't really need a server board like this.

It is a good deal, though, for what it is.
