Are refurbished hard drives from Newegg actually hard drives refurbished by the manufacturer, or just customer returns that Newegg sends out again?

I know they do the latter for a lot of their other products.

I got an 18.3GB Seagate 10,000 RPM U160 drive refurbed from Newegg.

It's great. No problems at all.

Yah, Newegg's known to do send out customer returns as "refurbished." Your experience confirms that.

Chaotic42 - Was your drive sealed in anti-static bag and labeled as "refurbished" by Seagate? Or was it a customer return (no "refurbished" marking anywhere or not in sealed Seagate anti-static bag).

You do realize that newegg has thousands of customers right? I seriously doubt that they added your RMA to their refub sales without inspecting the board for themselves.

I'm wondering whether Newegg's refurb drives are manufacturer-refurbished (they've been tested by the manufacturer) or whether they're customer returns that Newegg just sends out for a lower price hoping they're not actually defective.
