Creative offers their ZEN X-Fi 8GB MP3 Player for $99 with free shipping. This is a very attractive price point for this player with an SD slot, FM tuner and voice recording.

Creative ZEN X-Fi 8GB for $99

Check an extensive review of this player at anythingbutipod.com. They also have a side-by-side comparison feature where you can compare it to your current player.

30 day warranty..wish it were longer. The egg has a new one for 128+ ship. My bro has the 16gig one and he loves it and I am also a fan of my old school 4 gig zen V plus.

Edit: It appears I was looking at the satisfaction guarantee and not the warranty, looks like it has a 90day labor and 1 year part warranty.

I think it is 90 days. I've purchased 3 refurbs from Creative, and only one had an issue. They replaced it very quickly.

I've also done a lot of work converting videos to work on them. I've put together a batch file that makes it fairly easy to do the conversions, just drop your videos into the folder and double click the batch file. It uses Mencoder to do the conversions. You can download just the batch file, or everything (Mencoder included) in a zip in my Creative forum thread here - http://forums.creative.com/cre...id=pmc&thread.id=49225

I have had two ZEN players. Loved them both and both were stolen. Right now I've had a cheapie Panasonic go player for the past year and no one has stolen it yet. So basically what I am saying is that ZEN players are good and other people like them enough to take them.

What's the difference between "X-Fi" and "MX"?

Costco is selling new 16GB ZEN MX units for $99.99 plus $4.99 shipping. New units come with a 1 year parts, 90-day labor warranty.

I was going to ask what made this player worth more than $10/gb...

The Costco product appears to be the regular Zen, which was the model that came before the X-Fi. Not too terribly different; X-Fi has better bundled headphones, wi-fi feature which may or may not be useful, and a slightly different interface. Buttons are different too. Both have nearly worthless SD expansion slots that do NOT integrate with the regular memory (see the anythingbutipod review if you aren't clear).

Bottom line, they are decent players but not amazing, and the competition is stiff. I have used both and prefer the interface and sound of the Sansa Fuze.
