Refurbished A8N-SLI Deluxe?

Here is my question: I have a gift certificate to newegg and I am looking to get a new mobo and cpu. I have pretty much decided upon the a8n-sli deluxe, but I could get a better cpu by saving some money on the refurbished version -- 158 usd new, 99 usd refurbished. Do you think I would be safe getting the refurbished part, or am I just asking for trouble?

Also, I was thinking about the premium version, but I have a lian li v1000b, so I am going to stay away from the heatpipe cooling and just replace the noisy chipset fan with a zalman ZM-NB47J.

What do you think?

You might miss the I/O shield. That is about the only problem I can see.

Why do you think that case might be a problem? The heatpipe should work if the board is not upside down.

Personally I dont believe in buying anything refurbished. Some may see it as already fixed but I tend to view things as already broke once. Just how I am. Either way I'd rather have the 'Premium' version of that mobo. I read one post a while back that said if you put a fan on the inverted heatpipe (Premium) there wouldnt be a cooling problem with it. Not sure if there is any truth to it or not though. Might be worth looking into.

so I take it you have a refurbished mobo? Have you had any other issues with it aside from not getting the bridge? Did you get the backplate?

I bought mine from Cheifvalue. It came with nothing but the board. Luckily I got the newer version with the new chipset fan. The old chipset fan had problems.

I/O Shields are free from ASUS, and you can order the complete "missing" retail items for $40 shipped on the Deluxe/Premium from them. So, you'd still be saving $19!

ASUS boards carry the full warranty, new or refurbished, from the manufacturing dating. ASUS is a top-notch company, so I wouldn't worry about buying a refurb of their product.

Other manufacturers don't offer as much support, which makes buying a refurbished item much more of a risk.

Edit: If you look at the For Sale Forums, there are many for sale around $110 shipped with everything.

IMHO. Saving only $20 and a seperate order direct from asus isn't worth buying a referb.

What if the referb is dead but you don't have time to install of test everything before the 15 limit?

Maybe I'm imagining things ... but I remember a time when newegg had referbs for more like 40% off. ... Then I felt it was worth the risk.
