I'm getting desperate for a new vid card. Newegg has refurbished 9800pros for $166... I'm kind of a risk taker, but don't these cards require a power cable adapter from the ps ? If these are being sold barebones........ where can I get the cable to power this thing?

Thanks........ and yes, I'm hoping to find out without actually having to call the vendor.

Firstly, the 9800 series of gfx cards require a 3-pin/floppy-type power connector. The Y cable you posted a link to would extend your PSU power lines so as to include an extra 4-pin molex connector >>> that would do you no good for a 9800pro.

Secondly, as i was pointing out in a similar recent post about gfx card power connections - your gfx card simply needs to be plugged into your PSU via a 3-pin/floppy-type connector. If you have one of these free/spare on any one of your PSU lines, the Y-cable is not needed. But if you do want/need to extend one of your PSU lines so that it includes an extra 3-pin connector (in addition to the normal one 3-pin and two 4-pin setup of a line) that u can stick into your 9800PRO, you will require one that splits into one 4-pin connector and one 3-pin connector - not one that splits into two 4-pin connectors :)

Hope that helps.

yes, if you don't have an extra one coming from your PSU.
you may need a 3 pin though, make sure.

EDIT: pookie beat me to it. :)

the one that Newegg is selling refurbished for $166 uses the 4-pin molex not the 3 pin floppy type.

Really? I had no idea. In that case ignore what i said about needing a 3-pin extension Y-cable! The cable that was linked would be fine. Apologies.

You would've been correct if the card in question was a 9700/9700 Pro.
