search for part# 45FHT on dell.com

here is the description:

Kit includes software and RJ11 cable for 3COM Mini-PCI card Modem/NIC Combo.V.90 Internal.

if your inspiron 8000 laptop doesnt have a nic, this might be a good deal.

some1 confirm that this is the card...

Shipping in the Home section is $8. Only good if there is a coupon or you order a lot?

The wording
"Kit includes software and RJ11 cable for 3COM Mini-PCI card Modem/NIC Combo.V.90 Internal."
is curious. It either reads you get the software and cable with a MiniPCI card or you just get the software and RJ11 cable.

Can anyone verify what you get?

As for compatibility, you have to check and see if your machine can take the MiniPCI card. Some machines can and some can't. I know some IBM's will take em.

Doesn't say pcmcia card. My guess is this is a proprietary part. CABLE ONLY. - warm deal at best.

They may not be proprietary... it may be a Mini-PCI card. However, I agree with the above assessment that this MAY be just for the cables.

From what I know, as long as your notebook has a mPCI slot, it'll work fine... miniPCI is pretty much a set standard that was developed by notebook manufacturers as an industry standard.

How does one refurbish software and an RJ11 cable? ;)

The site does say "Refurbished: 3COM Modem/NIC" so it seems pretty clear that it's the card. And this is the mini-PCI combo card so it does conform to standards. However, some notebooks that have an empty M-PCI slot may not necessarily have the internal wiring to connect the external modem and RJ45 ports to the card so I'd say check this first.

Nice card, BTW, I have one in this Inspiron 8000 and I had the same card in an IBM ThinkPad before this.
