It's dead, don't worry about it.

WTF--now back to processing--hope they have better quality control with their replays than they do with their ordering system.

Can ReplayTV manually record/play without the subscription? What about setting a specific time for recording?

Thanks,

you can only do this in the older models.. this 5040 can't do it.

Is this true?

5040 can't record manually? Please explain further, thanks.

My order is back to "processing" as well. Sweet!

I have 2 panasonic 3030's that I might just keep now considering there is no manual record on these newer models. I bought my first 3030 for $40 from a coworker, and the second 3030 for $125!. Cheaper than VCRs!

Just to clarify, you can do manual records, you just can't do them without paying the activation fee.

Understood. But the good thing about the older replays is that you can activate it in the USA then give it to people in CAnada as a digital VCR. My friend uses it for this reason because he hates VCR tapes 🙂

There isn't any difference between the old replays and the new replays with regards to that functionality.

Nope, unit is dead without a subscription. Though you can bet the day after REplay goes under, someone will figure out how to make it work again. 🙂 There is a big developer community.

Dear Daniel,

Some customers who recently purchased a ReplayTV 5040 (Factory Renewed)
with Lifetime Service Activation received an email stating that their
order had been cancelled.

This communication was inaccurate and sent in error - YOUR ORDER HAS
NOT BEEN CANCELLED.

We apologize for the confusion and will begin shipping orders as
planned in the order they were received between May 30th, and
June 15th, 2003.

You will receive another email from us once your order actually ships.
Until then please be patient and accept our apologies for the
confusion we may have caused you.

The response to this ReplayTV package deal has been overwhelming.
It?s truly a great deal for anyone wanting a PVR. We still have
some units left but they are going quickly.

Thanks again for your order.

Enjoy Your New ReplayTV!

So much for Denon "helping" replay.

Here we go again---Status:Backordered->processing->cancelled->(we were just kidding,it's not cancelled)->cancelled. These guys are amazing.

Does this get channel info from the internet or does it have to be connected to a cable box or something? I am really interested in it but I want to make sure it works with Cox digital in Mesa first.

azjules: The replay gets its channel info through your replay subscription, either over the internet or through the phone line. The replay itself has a little wire that comes out of it with basically a suction cup on one end that you place over the remote-control input on your cable box. Thus, you send commands to the replay, and it transmits commands to your cable box. It supports a TON of cable boxes... I'd say the odds are extremely slim that yours wouldn't be supported.

It's important to remember that REplay uses its own menu system for navigating channels. It may be better or worse than what you have through digital cable now. (It's a lot worse than time warner digital cable's guide.)

I never got the "cancelled" e-mail, even though I used the F&F discount.
My order went from "waiting to process" to "processing".
Then, last night I got the "some of you got the mistaken cancelled" e-mail (I
hadn't). So, of course, today when I check the order status it shows "cancelled".
I'm not going to waste my time placing a new order, if they cancelled it, it was
just not meant to be. Seems like they are pretty screwed up there right now and
I don't want to end up with 2 of them due to their errors.

Is the USB wireless LAN stuff working yet? I think someone posted that it isn't available yet. I hope it is as it would be a PITA to run a phone or LAN drop to where I would put it.

Thanks

USB wireless is not working yet. (Though there is a Replay unit that now has 802.11b built in.)

As far as I know, you can't do anything with the USB port now. There is some speculation that Replay will instead shift users who want wireless to units that already have it built in.

Same here, my order shows as cancelled, I got the "mistaken cancelled" email, but I never got a "your order is cancelled" email.

this is ridiculous. My order now shows the status as "cancelled" even though I got an email saying it wasn't really cancelled.

Same thing happened to me. And the REALLY lame part is my credit card already got charged! WTF???? I'm calling my credit card company tonight to make sure sonicblue doesn't get any of my money. They'll never get my business again.

USB port isn't working yet, but a wireless bridge will work just fine. There is no unit with wireless built in. Orders haven't been cancelled. I love my 5200.
