Refurb Pc into a nas box

Looking for a low cost way to add some major storage space.
Have an unused pc (case,pwr,mobo - IPILP-LC ,dvd,sata2 ports, onboard video,pciex16
Not really concerned about raid or keeping back ups, just want maximum space accessable over a network.

Is it as simple as putting large drives 4tb in all available spaces (4), increasing airflow through the case, and finding some kind of OS that will boot from the dvd?

Simplicity / ease of use is the 1st concern and limiting cost beyond drive purchases is the other.

Just beginning to put ideas together so I'd like some advice on how to go about it.

Thanks.

Another vote for FreeNAS. Just make sure that all drives are the same size and that you have at least 8GB of memory installed.
