I decided to go with a A7N8X Deluxe and had to decide between the new or the refurb at newegg. It was not an easy decision to make being the penny pincher that I am. In the end I decided to go with the refurb for a couple of reasons. 1. No hassles returning it to newegg if it don't work. 2. Since newegg seems to be sending some people used boards when they order new, I figured why not pay for used to begin with. (lame reason I know but what the heck, it worked :D)

Anyone care to share their experiences with used/refurbed boards. Both good and bad ?

Thanx

That's exactly what you will get: Good and bad. Mixed results. When you get a good one, it is good. When you get a bad one, YOU pay for returning it and get a big time delay. Crap shoot at best. I've done it a few times and have been lucky. Others have not been so lucky. If you feel lucky; go for it. Just accept the consequences if things don't work out.

I am well aware of the risks. I recently bought a refurb ti4200 from newegg and it was DOA. I sent it back on my nickle. No surprises at all.

Refurb A7N8X Deluxe = $69.00

New A7N8X Deluxe = $124.99

Risk = worth taking. :)

SKORPI0, glad to know you're 7 for 7. Hope the winning streak continues. :)

I've bought 2-3 refurb'd motherboards from Newegg over the past year and all have been perfect from the first boot. I have an Abit KD7 now and I would rate it at the top with all other boards that I have owned, new or refurb'd. I did however get screwed on a refurb'd cpu.

Refurbs are missing all included accessories that are in a retail package. In most cases that is not a problem, IDE cables are easy to find, USB brackets cost only a few bucks. Finding a rear I/O adapter can be tough.

The only time I tried a refurb the IDE 1 port was dead.

The only accessory I'm concerned about is the IO plate. I heard you can get the entire accessory kit from Asus for about 20 bucks. I'll either order that or take a Dremel to one of the plates I have and try to make it fit. :D

I've bought 4 or 5 refurb motherboards from newegg and can say that, while they don't always work perfectly, they can always be made to work in some configuration. About half of them work perfectly, while a few I had to tweak some BIOS settings to get them to be stable or play around with DIMM slots etc.
