I got one last week and I must say the only thing that you miss opposite the new units are the "gigantic waste of trees" box that they come in. If you do a little research you will see that Apple has a very detail process that the refurbs go through. If the shell is all jacked up they replace them with shiney new ones. Plus they give the same warranty as the new units. You cant go wrong. I got it and there wasnt a scratch on it!!!! Prestine shape!!! Hop on that great deal cause the refrubs dont last long Dont wait man...do it now b4 your sorry:thumbsup:

What Signal said.
I got a refurb ipod a while back and it was indistinguishable from my brother's brand new one. You get no scratches and all accesories appear to be new also. The only way I could tell for sure it was refurb was a sticker on the shrinkwrap saying so. I would definitely jump on apple refurbs.

they did this about two months ago and i picked up a 40gig ipod. well...i was triple charged for it, i was sent the wrong remote (1st gen), and it turned out to be a bad unit (non responsive buttons and faulty backlight)...all i have to say is that if you're patient and nice to the people at the apple store near you-or over the phone-you will end up like me-i now have 2 sets (overnighted, no less-but why two??)of apple remotes and headphones, a BRAND NEW 40gig ipod, and a $100 credit to use online or at a b&m location. so i guess after it's all said and done, im a happy shopper, but it took some frustrationa and some work, not to mention several hours on the phone!!

the 1st gen (and 2nd)plug is round, the 3rd gen plug has a little leg hanging off of it-they look completely different and you cannot interchange them, so it will be very obvious if you got the right one.
