Compgeeks has bad support so you might as well spring the $50 more and get a new one from dell.

Sorta agree, but the USB cradle is an extra $20 since it doesn't come with the base Axim X5 300MHz at Dell. The price right now in Small Business is $249 + $20 - 20% auto discount = $215.20 + tax, free shipping. That's a $65 difference. It's $242 in the Home section with the USB cradle, but it also comes with a 64MB CF card.

No, 2 completely different things. You CAN get a pcmcia->CF adapter so you can use pcmcia devices (such has WNICs) in a CF slot... You can also get CF WNICs...

You can get the 300MHz AXIM refurbished by Dell at DellOutlet for $169 with free shipping. No cradle, but it's refurbished by Dell and it looks like it has the standard warranty plus you can upgrade the warranty if you want.

If you're looking for a PDA around this price
Take a serious look at PDA
Audiovox(toshiba) for 149 after rebate

Thinking I may have to jump on this on, revies of it are pretty solid

I'm kind of shocked that people aren't more excited about this deal. Admittedly I didn't jump on it immediately, but after a good night's rest I decided to order it this morning (the 300 Mhz Version). These most likely have been refurbished by Dell themselves, so I don't see what could be wrong with them. For the price, it's a steal. No waiting for a rebate, no PM hassle.

As many have said, because it includes the cradle, it's an even better deal. My only hope is that CompGeeks didn't make a mistake and use the same pictures for both the 300 Mhz and 400 Mhz units and not check to see that the 300 Mhz only in reality comes with the USB Cable.

Of course I'm paranoid. ;)

Does anyone have any knowledge about the Sharp Zaurus, model #SL5500? Home Shopping (hsn.com) has a "Today's Special" on this unit, selling for $198.92 with $8.98 shipping. Use ebates and get back 3% also.

I read some reviews on it, and it seems to be pretty well rated. Here are the specs taken on HSN's website:

Sharp Model SL-5500
206 MHz processor
Personal Data Assistant with HancomOffice suite that offers Word, Excel and Powerpoint compatibility
Secure Data (SD)/Multi Media Card (MMC) and Compact Flash expansion slots
204 x 320 pixel color LCD touch screen with folding display cover, stylus and cursor key
One touch access keys for schedule, address book, menu and email functions
1/16" stereo headphone and microphone jack
Docking station base unit/charger with USB connection cord, Sharp in/out port, AC adapter and synchronize button
Base has a gray finish and measures approx. 3-1/4"L x 4"W x 2"H
CD-ROM with PC desktop synchronization software and operations manuals
QWERTY keyboard with sliding cover built in - innovative keyboard design for easy data input. This feature is unique to PDAs. Most offer this as an upsell, and the item is rather bulky
64 MB standard storage/program flash drive memory - files, programs and PIM data are stored with plenty of room internally
Handheld desktop software - synchronizes to your calendar, contacts, emails and files with Outlook. It also handles Word and Excel applications, MP3 and MPEG-1, playback, voice recording and full web-browser (with additional accessories and service)
Linux and Java platform operating system - powerful software allows for fast processing, networking and easy integration with mobile data solutions and a large library of support
Rechargeable 1700mAH Lithium-ion battery - ensures long and repeated use. It charges when connected to the cradle charger base unit
Silver finish
Measures approx. 5-1/4"L x 2-1/4"W x 3/4"H
Comes with a 1 year, limited manufacturer's warranty

Comments anyone?

I own a Zaurus. I used to have a Clie and I used a Toshiba e740 from work for awhile, but I felt the Z was the best for my needs. I bought 3rd party calander and contact apps, I didn't like the OE versions. Solid unit, good battery life and I can use the SD and CF slots at the same time unlike the Axim. I can't wait until the 5600's drop in price....

I'm gonna pass seems to buggy for me

seems CompUblows is all out of the Maestro on-line, wonder if a local store will do 149.00

The Axim has a relatively large LiIon battery, 1440mAh. It's rated for 8-10 hours on the X5 400MHz and I get about 8-9 hours continuous use (moderately heavy) on my X5 400MHz.

For example, a Palm Zire will last about 3x longer on a single charge while playing MP3s, but it has no backlight, runs at 16MHz, only has 2MB and has a small monochrome screen. More full featured Palm OS PDAs with color screens, faster processors and more memory fare much worse. Most don't even have 75% of the battery life of the Axim because they use smaller capacity batteries.

When you see claims like "x weeks" or "y days" battery life, understand that that is not continuous use. Sony figures 30 minutes use a day when making those calculations (e.g. 2 weeks = 14 days x 30 minutes/day = 7 hours), and Palm uses about the same estimation. I charge my PDA about once a week, after 8-9 hours or so of use.

They have a shipping calculator, figure it out yourself. You probably have to pay tax living in Cali.

Just curious...what do you mean by that? I have SD and CF cards in my Axim right now. I don't know if I can actually use them at the same time (as in reading/writing data to each device simultaneously), but I certainly have no problems with data and program storage in use on each card. The Zaurus is a nice machine also, but the Axim meets my needs very, very well, and there are some amazing apps available for it.
