I got in on the refurb 9700 pro AIW at Newegg. I got the card and it works just fine. The question is whether I should keep it or not based upon the fact that newegg only guarantee's items like this for 15 days. I'm afraid that murphy's law will kick in and on day 16 the card will go bad....what do you guys think?

Sent it back quickly and get an nVidia card!!!! (j/k)
I doubt it will suddenly go on day 16. If you only saved a small amount over retail though, it might be worth getting retail for the extra garantee, but I would expect it to be fine.

I paid $267 vs $345 retail.

in addition, the retail has the fancy bells and whistles like cables, remote etc, where as the refurb is just a bare card.

Kev

PS- I used to be an nvida guy but not really commited to either brand per se, the nvida install process is a hell of a lot smoother then the ATI install process.

Dude... Don't mean to flame you but why did you get it in the first place if you weren't sure you were going to keep it?

If the card is working now, chances are it will continue to work for the duration. If you've ever worked with a lot of hardware, you'll know that 99 percent of the time, you will notice problems right away from the get-go. So I don't think you'll have anything to worry about for a long time.

So if it's working great for you now, don't take it back! Be happy with it!

Peace...

yeah I hear you on all points. I KNOW I should not have gotten it if I was doubiting whether to keep it...BUT the die hard deal getter that I am preventing me from passing up on the deal. I figured if it didn't work was DOA I could RMA it. But the good news is that every aspect of it seems to work fine, I have to get cables but I've seen them for fairly cheap on Ebay so I don't know if its that big of a deal, I can use it for my purposes without the cables so that not a major concern for me.

I should have jsut stuck with a new one...oh well...

I agree with tomwid....infant mortality if the most prevelent problem with electronics...if it works when you plug it in and for at least the next hour...your usually golden...keep it and enjoy.

Even though Newegg only covers it for 15 days, it should be fully covered under the manufacturers warranty. On the other hand, when it comes time to resell it on eBay you 'll get a substantially higher price if it is a complete retail box, with all of the accesories.

Tough call at an $80 difference.

BTW, OfficeMax will be having a 50% off Airborne coupon starting this Sunday (June 1 - up to $10). If you send it back at least you can save on shipping.

I picked up the same card too! Just figure this....you got a 9700 Pro for $267 vs a new ATI Radeon 9700 Pro for $309 (ATI branded). Now, if you want the AIW features, just pick up some cable and a remote cheap on Ebay.

For now the AIW in my machine is clocked at 350/350 and running GREAT. I have no need for the AIW features just yet, but knowing they are available for a few $$$ more is nice.

Later.

I think its a pretty good deal. Other than the component output cable, the cables are the same as all the other AIW Radeon's except the 8500dv, so they'll be easy to find. The missing remote would probably be the biggest bummer in the whole package, but the bottom line is you got a 9700 pro for a good price, the fact that it is an AIW makes it even that much better.

appreciate all the feedback from everyone.

I decided o keep the card. It's running great at stock speeds test the tv function to and it works fine.

I don't think' I'll buy the cables unless I really need them in the future.

What I would like though is to get some of the software that came with the retail box such as guide plus.

other then that I'm very happy with this thing.
