Online people say these things have a bunch of fluff BS on them but I cannot find where to delete it. The HD has been formatted (it actually came out of the box from CircuitCity with a bunch of user data from the previous owner; slack!).

Yeah. I think a lot of 360's come with demos and junk. You can check on that in the memory settings page. I don't know where that page is on the NXE thing. If you reformatted it, it's likely that all the demos got erased anyway, but it'd be worth checking anyway.

wtf 7 gigs! It does fine without an HD I can't believe they screw me to the tune of 7 gigs, it certainly makes the 20 GB hard drive less attractive.

thats why :) you find a deal online. i did.

circuit

wireless controller and 20gb HDD for 38bux, that included shipping

40 bux alone is the cost of the controller new.

or buy it through the xbox website for 30. get 3months of xbl as well.

ok then, whats the problem?

i only bought the HDD, because any updates will require memory, demos are small enough. i dont mind waiting for loading.

you practically got the HDD for free

Yeah, I thought the same thing, it's a bit of a ripoff. I'm tempted to get a 60GB and a transfer kit...

Problem is it's a 14Gig HD, not 20GIG, which is what I paid for. I really don't need a second controller much anyway. If the 60GB was not so damn expensive, I'd get it. Like if its xbox live gold was 12 months instead of 3, but 3 months is only worth $12.50 and I cannot do that.

in my case, i just wanted to play online with other people. and with the memory card. downloading updates and saving games, would have eaten away at the crappy 256mb card that is supplied with the arcade

i do feel jipped, but what are we gonna do about it? theres not much we can do

Well, if you got a 60GB, it would only be 53.9GB. The 360 is going to use a portion of the HDD for caching and certain system files regardless.

What the guy is trying to say is 35% of his 20gig is taken as opposed to 11% for the 60gig.

If you can find a Circuit City with them in stock, they are now selling the 120GB HD for $79.99. The transfer cable sells for about 40 on ebay, so you can only be 40 out of pocket then

I think his point is they advertise it as 20GB, and while formatting can account for some "loss"... the fact it starts off by hoarding a section of it for caching/system files/whatever is "cheating"

I don't really see the issue, it's done w/ computers... 250GB hdd.. but whatever OS you install will take up space. But it's a matter of perception really.. and expectations. You don't really expect to lose much given the xbox can run w/o a hdd.

Out of the box my elite had 112GB Free.

I'd be a bit ticked if I only had a 20GB Drive, but I don't think I'll have to worry about it.

I have 5 games copied over, about 50 Rock band tracks, a couple XBLA games and I'm sitting at about 85GB

Yep :)

I am used to an OS taking up space on a PC, but the xbox already has its OS elsewhere, since it works fine with the arcade. Any caching that it may use when it has a hard drive aside, there are a few gigs in that that simply may never receive use; I wonder if the space stolen out of the hard drive is not really necessary for, at least, an arcade xbox.
