Refund on defective item at CC?

I got something recently from CC, but it's defective. I actually don't really want it anymore, but their policy on getting refunds for defective items is vague:

- Digital cameras, camcorders, desktop PCs, notebook PCs, monitors, printers, scanners and radar detectors must be returned within 14 days of the sale date and (except where prohibited by law) are subject to a 15% restocking fee if returned opened or in a box other than the factory-sealed box.

- There is no restocking fee for defective products returned in exchange for the exact same product, or for open box purchases.

Now, it's in its original packaging and not one of the aforementioned items in the first bullet (pair of headphones). However, I want to be prepared for the encounter. If they insist on giving me the exact same product in exchange, I can always turn around and return that, so it should seem logical that I could get the money in the first place. Just don't want to get screwed with a replacement of stuff I don't want (or losing 15% on restocking).

I'm just wondering if others have had experience with this. Thanks for the help.

you take the bad one to them, they give you a good one

if you don't want the new/good one, ebay it

Would not get near value on good one, checked E-bay. (Bought it on a whim, which isn't like me--it was overpriced in hindsight.)

My roommate just returned two pairs of headphones, opened, to CC and did not get a restocking fee.

Good to know. Hopefully it's not YMMV. Anyone else?

They will most likely mark your receipt when you exchange it, so you probably won't be able to return the unopened product as new.

Edit: But their restocking fee policy obviously doesn't include headphones...
