Below is part of a thread I started on a newsgroup. At this point I am really concerned about the hot divider. Please see below. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It has been pretty hot in our house because we have some HVAC issues.
Anyway the freezer side seems to be working but there is no air coming
from the vent in the refrigerator side. The model number is
FRS26ZRGWA. Anybody know how I can troubleshoot this?

TIA

Let me correct myself. I hear the refrigerator running, but I don't
feel any air coming of the freezer side either.

Someone responded with
Defrost timer or defrost coils. Google it.

I took the panel off and the coils were pretty frosted over. Also,
the thermostat came apart when I moved it. So there is no thermostat
in the fridge, I'll have to get one tomorrow. However, when I turned
the power back on I noticed the divider between the freezer section
and the fridge has gotten pretty warm (I am referring to the metal
part that the door magnets stick too). Is that normal? I just don't
recall feeling that before.

Ok, i am not good at explaining things but here goes.

There should be one electronic thermostat and one manual. The electronic one is on the freezer side and the manual one opens and closes a vent to let cold air through to fridge side. There are lots of variations, some use a fan to force air from freezer to fridge.

The door frame runs either hot gas or has an electric heater running through it to stop ice building up around the door. This is called a "mullion heater"

Turn off the fridge/freezer and leave doors open and allow it to defrost overnight or for a weekend. Then turn it on and close the doors and monitor temperature.

while the unit is off, try and vacuum the condensor coils if you can see them.

Let me know if you have any further questions, pics would be good
