Discussion Refrigerator door problem

Hello, I bought this refrigerator few days ago - HITACHI - R-V440PUC8 BSL and I noticed that the freezer door opens itself when I close the door of my fridge and the fridge door also opens slightly when I close the door of the freezer. I called the company and notified them about it. They sent a technician guy. I showed him the fridge and he said that it's not a big problem and nothing gonna happen to the fridge. He also added that even if the company replaces this fridge with another one, most likely it will have the same problem, because all these models have this problem as he has seen. He said that it's a good refrigerator and if it was up to him, he would keep it. He took a video of it and said he would show it to them and instructed us to wait.

I'm wondering if this a really minor problem or can it damage the fridge later? Do any of you have such problem with your fridge?

I have a french door fridge, and when I close one side the other side does the same exact thing yours is doing. Shouldn't be a problem if the opposite door re-seals itself. Seems to just be an effect of closing the door and the air that rushes out, or the pressure change, pops open the other one.

My Maytag Elite does not do it, but I had a Whirlpool and GE French that both did.

Definitely not a deal breaker imo. If it annoys you enough, go to a showroom and test a bunch until you find one that does not do it, that meets your size and feature requirements.

The GE I sold to an acquaintance for really cheap because they badly needed a fridge at the time, and they did not have a lot to spend on one. Nothing was wrong with it, it was an excuse to buy the Whirlpool because it had newer features we wanted, and Best Buy had a great sale going. That one lasted 7 years until I gave it away to a financially struggling friend needing a fridge. It was an excuse to get the Maytag, since I redid the kitchen with the stainless steel elite series appliances that year, and the Whirlpool was black. The Whirlpool did need the water dispenser on the door repaired once, but that was in warranty.

The Maytag is 5 years old now, and the only issue was a clogged drain line last year, that was super easy to fix.

EDIT: And I incorrectly called them French door in a previous post. Both of those were side by side with water and ice dispensers on the door. The Maytag is my first French door.

Did not have such a problem with my 20 yr old Amana or mu 18 yr old KitchenAid. Updated the KitchenAid to a Samsung, no issues like described in the OP.

My fridge does the same thing. I suspect the two compartments aren’t sealed and it is an air pressure thing.

If the fridge has adjustable legs, adjust it to tilt back slightly so the doors close with gravity. The bonus is that when you spill stuff, it doesn't drain out the door but drains back behind the veggie drawers where you never have to think about it again.
