Hi there,

I've replaced an aging GF2 in my main machine with a ATI AIW x800 XL, and I installed the software that came with the CD included in the package.

It occurs to me now that there's a much newer Catalyst driver just released by ATI, so I'm thinking about updating.

Do I need to uninstall everything I have as far as video drivers and then run the .exe downloaded from ATI's website? Or is it going to be sufficient to run the .exe file and the program will know what to overwrite?

ALSO (very importants) I don't like the ATI MMC, I haven't installed it because I was afraid it will take over my files and change all the associations.

Can I install the Multimedia Centre without having to worry about hijacked .avi and .mpg files?

Thanks for the input... :)

I just download the driver with the ccc and wdm included, doubleclick, say "yes" to everything, and reboot... Actually, this time I've decided to give ATI Tray Tools a whirl, so I just got the driver only download, and ATI Tray Tools from Guru3D. Either way when simply updating non-beta drivers I don't bother un-installing the old ones.

I'm not familiar with MMC... So, I can't help you there.

Ah, thanks, well at least it's good news that I don't have to uninstall and reinstall everything.

Anyone else?

You should do add/remove programs to remove the old driver first, then reboot and install the new base driver along with ATi Tray Tools.

ATI recommends running their uninstaller (aticimun.exe).

Dunno aboot MMC either.
