refresh rates

i was wondering what the refresh rate is, and how high i should have it.

both of my monitors are running @ 60 Hertz, and both are capable of up to 85 Hertz.

i have never changed it, what does it do, and is a higher hertz better?

higher is less jumpy of an image. its better quality and nicer to look at
