Refresh rate problem

Problem: Refresh rate goes to 60Hz at every reboot, or after the monitor re-initializes after shutting down automatically - Windows' auto-shutdown feature for monitors.
When I go to the monitor properties, it is already set to 120Hz. If I set it to anything else, even 60Hz, THEN it displays at 120Hz. I have it checked "Hide modes this monitor cannot support". Well, I used ReForce already, and now the only rate that shows is 120Hz. But it still defaults to 60Hz.
Specs:
WinXP Pro
Radeon 9700 Pro, latest Catalysts
Nokia 445Pro monitor

What gives? Am I going to have to edit the refresh rate settings in the registry manually?

No, this is what you need to do:

-open up display properties
-click the displays tab
-click on your monitor
-set the max. refresh rate to whatever you want

That should do it hopefully. :)

That's exactly what I do - every time I reboot. It goes to 120Hz just fine then. Next time I reboot, bam - 60Hz again, even though it's already set to 120Hz. Windows says it's at what I want, but the monitor's actually refreshing at a different rate.

And now, my original post:

Problem not solved.
I guess its name is actually RefreshForce; the file's name is ReForce though, that's why I used that word instead of the other.

I have the same problem with a Radeon 9100 and a Dell M1110 21" CRT at work, I have the latest drivers but each day it defaults back to 60hz but shows that it's at 90 :|
I will try out RF tomorrow.

RF isn't working for me either, it just limits the refresh rates I have to choose from when I have to change it back from "the invisible 60hz"

Thanks for reminding me about this thread. I'm now using Catalyst 4.8's, and a 9800 Pro, as well as official driver files from Viewsonic (who now owns Nokia's monitor division). Still have the same problem - the refresh rate shows as being 120Hz in the settings window, but it is in fact refreshing at 60Hz.

Actually, you want to set this to the highest refresh your monitor supports at any resolution (I set it to 200Hz) and then also set the resolution to the maximum your monitor supports at any refresh (I set mine to 2048x1536). apply the settings and uncheck "Use DDC info"

I don't have (and don't think I have ever seen) "Use DDC info"

I don't have (and don't think I have ever seen) "Use DDC info"

Its on the monitor properties sheet in the "displays" tab of the advanced display properties in the legacy Catalyst CP, and also available by right clicking on the monitor icon in the displays manager (in Advanced view) of the new Catalyst CCC.
