Doubt its the refresh rate, given that low refresh rates with LCDs is not responsible for eyestrain. Did you get the SXGA+ screen? Maybe your eye can't handle the high-resolution display.

I got the XGA which is currently running 1024x768.
My desktop CRT is running at 1024x768 too but with a refresh rate of 85Hz. My eyes flicker a good 20 to 30 minutes before it stops when I use my laptop.
