Refresh rate in games?

I'm having a problem with games in W2K... I normally run at 1280X1024 85Hz refresh rate, but whenever I go into a game (in this case, No One Lives Forever) at 1024X768 the monitor switches to 60Hz. I'm pretty sensitive to it and I'd like to run at 100Hz at 1024X768. Any idea how I can lock in the refresh rate for a given game mode?

AFAIK, the Windows keeps track of the set refresh for each available resolution, so that if you don't use 1024x768, it could well switch to the default refresh if a games uses that resolution. To fix it, try setting your desktop to 1024x768 and then in the control panel set the refresh to whatever you want. Then set desktop back to 1280x1024. Then start up the game and see if it worked.
