Refresh rate fix for XP = loss of performance?

After reinstalling XP solved my previous problems, I've been gradually adding back in programs and testing with 3DMark2001SE. The one thing I have noticed is that if I install the refresh rate fix (from Guru3D) I lose 3-400 Marks - all tests run almost identically, apart from Nature which loses roughly 10fps!

Is this normal, and is there any way round it?

Install the refresh rate fix but set 1024x768x32 to 60Hz and see if you still lose the points. I'm guessing you're running the test after fixing the refresh rate to 100hz or whatever, thus making the card work harder, though 3-400 points seems to be a bigger loss than I would expect.
