Im running Fedora Core at home and I cant seem to find a refresh rate fix for games. Im stuck at 60hz, anyone know how to fix that probem? My monitor is installed and has the right refresh rates in fedora, in games however, its stuck at 60hz. Thanks in advance.

Perhaps if you provided some details, people would be more helpful. Video card and monitor specs? How are you checking the refresh rate outside the game? Inside the game? Which games? Anything, really...

Monitor is a Envision 985-e 19in Flat CRT, capable of 160hz in 640x480, 100hz in 1024x768, 120hz in 800x600, 75hz in 1600x1200, i check the hz by looking in the monitor menu button. Displays it right on the screen. Isnt that how you check yours? Video card is a GeForce 4mx440 and its capable of running all of these resolutions and hz. Savage is the game im playing currently, in 1024x768. Basically, when i change the resolution within Fedora, it has the right hz, in the game its just stuck at 60hz no matter what resolution:

I had always checked in /var/log/XFree86.log. I never noticed that my monitor had a properties selection, but sure enough...

Are you using the official nvidia driver or the generic vesa driver? (Look at the log file). Also, is DRI enabled and working?

I'm not familiar with the game - is that running under WineX or is it native? If it's WineX game, you probably want to ask at Transgaming - there are a lot of quirks with WineX that aren't obvious to typical troubleshooting.

savage is both win32/linux compatible, so no winex, the driver is the latest nvidia driver. works fine. game runs fine, just that damn refresh rate stuck at 60. ive had this similar probem in winxp, but a win32 application called refresh lock rids of that. as for DRI, not too sure what that stands for, or means? whats it do?

I remember that, but it's a Windows-only bug. I just checked and had no problem going over 60 with UT2003 on my Ti4400.

Link If you're using the official nvidia drivers, you shouldn't have to deal with it - they handle DRI in their own way.

I'm using the 4439 drivers, so those might be worth a try. But probably the driver version doesn't matter. Here are the relevant bits from my XFree86 log. If you've got these or equivalents, then I'd say the problem is in the game and not in your system.

Nvidia drivers don't use DRI. btw. That's for ATI, Matrox and other cards.

....

Oh ya beat me to it...

nice jpg. :p

and yeah, i always google before asking, i didnt find anything (on the refresh rate that is) . my driver im using is straight off the nvidia website, so im hoping thats offical enough. it loads the game in 3d just fine, so i know its working, it gets more fps then my winxp os did thats for sure, about 10-15 more in game. so its gotta be working properly. hell, i bet its just the game locking the refresh rate.
