reformatting with win2k...

ok..i'm getting mad here....i've got my four boot up disks, since my dvd/cd drive is not bootable...and i put the first one in...it runs what it needs...put second disk it, and the same happens, and third disk does the same, and then on the fourth disk it asks for my windows 2k cd, so i put that in...it install my mouse and keyboard...figures out what time zone i'm in, finds the time, etc....now i've got a partition...the C drive will be holding windows....and the D drive will be holding everything else...when i get the cd in, it asks me if i want to format C, and with a fresh install, and i say yes, then it goes through all the mouse/keyboard/time stuff....and then it prepares networking components, and then it is copying files off the cd, and then on the next screen....it shuts off the computer and starts the whole damn thing over again...this is my third time through....what the heck should i do to get this to work???

system components:
1 Gighz Thunderbird
Abit KT7A mobo
768 meg RAM
ATI Radeon 64 mb ddr vivo
Creative Labs Ovation 12x dvd/40x cd...

running bios version 6.00 on the abit...

You *sure* your CD isn't bootable? Sounds like it's booting off the CD and running the setup again.

Dumb question, but did you verify BIOS is set to boot off of C?

And remember to remove the floppy after the installer reboots...

Bozo1 is right - try removing the CD from the drive after the reboot as well...

don't boot off floppy unless you have to, do it off the cd...

or use a 98 boot disk, copy the files to the HD, load smartdrive into the memory, and run the setup

well here was the actual problem....and no my dvd/cd drive isn't bootable....went into the bios and tried to do that....

ok: i went through this setup thing 3 times this morning...and got the same result, so i shut off the cpu till i got off work...and now i tried it 3 times again....each time i tried this, i changed the name that it gave me for the computer name(the weird one) every time, and this time i left it as the weird one...and it ran all the way through the set up now...

thanks for the help guys....
