I have had Windows XP pro installed for over a year now without a format. I just make sure to keep everything clean and running smooth so I don't have to worry about it in the future. I always run virus scans, defrags, spyware removers and always uninstall stuff that I don't use. Works for me

It may suck to do it, but man the difference in performance on a newly-wiped computer compared to an old installation is well worth it.

I just had to format & reinstall for some hardware upgrades (just bought a A7N8X Deluxe and Athlon XP 2400+ and decided it wasn't a good idea to just install the hardware on top of the old installation). It friggin screams now.

copied and pasted from the other thread that apparently was a double post:

depends on your setup... on my C: drive all i have is the OS and like office and winrar and stuff, all the other proggies are installed on D: and E: so a reformat of C: is no big deal!

if all yer stuff is on C: then yeah, reformatting bites <B>

I usually do it once every other month. My longest without a reformat is probaby like 4 months. Hehehe.

Make sure you backup all your documents though.

Bloat can't be fixed sometimes other than just formatting.

My last install of XP had been on for about a year, and was running just fine. I just don't like mixing major hardware configs on installs (mobos)

"...i have installed so much sh!t..."

What, 1337 desktop mod programs? Any and every other browser, so long as it isn't Microsoft's? And on, and on...

You guys that have to reformat all the time, pretty much deserve it. If you spent as much time learning how to maintain your system, as you do making it pretty, you could probably avoid this formatting fetish altogether!
