I'm getting ready to reformat.......again. But I can't figure out how to save my address book and bookmarks to my burner. I use outlook express.
I am making backup cd's but can't seem to get my address book on one please help.TIA

c'mon, I know there is someone out there that has the answer and isn't doing anything constructive at the moment.

address book: \Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\*.wab

bookmarks: \Windows\Favourites\*.url

email archive: \Windows\Application Data\Identities\(something weird like {C9903140-1EAE-11D4-B450-9C254DFBFC3E})\Microsoft\Outlook Express\*.*

ok? 🙂

Depends if you're using IE4 or IE5. Different file types.

In IE5, it's Windows/Application Data/Microsoft/Outlook Express/Mail

Look for these folders...

Deleted Items.idx
Deleted Items.mbx
Drafts.idx
Drafts.mbx
Folder1.idx
Folder1.mbx
folders.nch
Inbox.idx
Inbox.mbx
Outbox.idx
Outbox.mbx
pop3uidl.dat
Sent Items.idx
Sent Items.mbx

Some will not back up as they are in use (eg .dat). Back up the rest in a folder.

After reinstall, use the IE5 import tool (in the File menu) on these. Outlook Express will import them automatically after you've specified their location.

dennilfloss I've got Win98SE, IE5.01 and my mail is where I've described. oh, and I assume you meant "these files...." not "folders". my method of just grabbing the files manually work perfectly, I've tried it. Oh, and most people (I assume) have their own folders on top of the normal ones.....

Yup, I meant these files in that folder (the default folder) and the WBS file in the Address Book folder. Damn brain fog! 😉
