What version do you have?

If you have an earlier one you can just save the DB99 (i think that's right) folder and just put it in your new copy. However, if you're using the newer 2000 versions, I think the procedure is different. I tried to do the same thing upgrading to 2000 but it didn't work. My contacts went goodbye. ICQ has instructions on doing it, I've seen them posted.
Good luck,

okay. this is what i do. go to for example: C:\Program Files\ICQ and double click on the ICQ folder. in this folder you will find two folders called 2000b (depends on version) and UIN. take these two folders copy and paste them to another drive or back them up on a CD-RW. these two folders are too big to fit on a typical floppy. you might even want to use a zip disk. after you have formatted and reinstalled everything. go back to the directory where icq is installed and copy and paste 2000b and UIN folders. you will get a prompt asking if you would like to replace the original or existing folders...just click yes. this method works for me everytime..not sure if it will work for you. i format like a mutha. heh heh. good luck.

no problemo man. good luck. by the way, reinstall icq fresh and don't forget to write down your existing icq number since it will prompt you for the number when you reinstall as an existing user.
