reformatted win 98, now getting windows protection error on boot when raising fsb to 133

Yeah, so I reformatted the hard drive, and the only thing i changed in bios that was different than any other install was the fact that I disabled APIC.

Now when I try to set my FSB back to 133 where i always had it instead of 100, when I restart the comp, I get a windows protectin error. I then have to reset the bios ot default settings, and restart the comp, however when i did, for some reason the display adapter drivers were no longer installed. Weird.

So did the APIC thing have anything to do with this? And yes I'm positive this is from upping the FSB. the CPU is an XP1800

APIC stands for advanced programmable interrupt controller.. and its usually set default in the bios. Thats all i know about it. I would check the ram, you using DDR or sdram?

Yes, but is the rest of your system OK with that FSB speed? (Video, PCI cards, memory, etc.)
What happens when you set the BIOS to defaults? Display adapter drivers may need to be reinstalled in that case.

yes everything is fine to be set at these speeds. like i said, the box ran fine until i just reformatted with the acpi thing in the bios set to off. i set it to off because it was recommended to do so on amdmb.com.

SYSTEM SPECS:
Win 98 SE/AMD XP1800/MSI kt3 ultra2 mobo/Crucial 512 2100 DDR /Gainward GeForce3 ti450 Golden Sample/Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card/60 GB Maxtor 7200 RPM Hard Drive/Philips 109S 19" monitor/Antec 400w PSU/Thermalright sk6 Heatsink with some fan I got from FrozenCpu.com

But does the motherboard officially support a 133 MHz FSB? What is the chipset?

This comment you made earlier:

Makes it sound like you're overclocking.

MY suggestion? Dont mess around with a BIOS setting if you ahave no idea what it does. When you have a protection error it usually is a memory issue believe it or not. I have a bad memory stick, and when I use it , it gives all kinds of ugly errors when Windows starts, but I don't think it is your memory since it worked before. If you turn off the interrupt controller in the bios, yea, that might be a bad thing :/
