Reformatted PC Win7 will not update

It just checks for updates forever, I let it do this for 30 mins. I can't even install my graphics driver due to .net framework being out of date.

Same here, it took ages but then it does work. Even downloading updates takes like 20 mins downloading progress @ 0% then it starts. Microsoft are crippling the Windows 7 systems on purpose to force them to move to their new windows 10 virus.

well not really, it has been doing this for long before win 10 was out for public release.
I get that you dont like win 10 but come on...

OP, if you need the .net framework 4 this will cover it all for 4

or if you need 3.5 and older, this should get you going in the mean time untill you can get all the windows updates to download

Another alternative is to use something like wsusoffline, grab most if not all the updates, ust it to install, then check for new updates. I have seen it help a bit on machines where it takes forever to get the initial download to go

Same thing is happening on my dads laptop right now. Not sure the last time he used it, but we used to to watch a movie and now it says "Installing update 33 of 34" and has been going for like half an hour. I am afraid that when it comes on in the morning, Windows 10 will be on the laptop (which he doesn't want) and everything will be borked. D:

For me the download wouldn't even start until about 20 mins or more have passed. Even if I selected one download, like IE 9 update, it would take like an hour to download/install it. After a few updates have been done though this gets fixed. So just be patient.

If the telemetry updates/ forced Windows 10 Upgrade related Windows Updates weren't enough to make you despite this company, now they have started a new trick.

On 3 different occasions / 3 different clean install of Windows 7, after the initial updates scan which took ages to complete this time, I initially thought this was due to the fact that there were 200 updates available......

Anyway, I don't install all updates together, but rather, I follow a certain pattern which you will see in my soon to be completed Windows 7 Clean Install Guide.

I start with IE 9 update then reboot

Then I perform all security updates then reboot

Then I install the Windows 7 SP1 update (1 update) then reboot

Then I do all the remaining Windows updates then reboot.

Now this time, when I checked the IE 9 update alone, the Downloading progress bar was at 0% for about 20 minutes or more then it started.....I thought it was a temporary server overload or something....

Then I started doing the other updates, be it 1 or multiple updates that I select, it would always take 20+ minutes to even start the download progress. It would just hand there at Downloading 0% for ages.....

I still thought it was just a temporary glitch with Windows Updates.

Then it happened again on the 2 other clean install I performed....

Then I read this and can now safely say that Micro$h4ft may be doing this on purpose to force people to upgrade to Windows 10.....Enough already.....seriously......I'm sick of this.......

No I do not want to skip the updates, I need the security updates and some updates are actually good........ (some)

Windows Update - long time to check for updates

I find it is better just to let it sit. When you come back, there will be a little notification saying updates are downloaded, do you want to install. Or you go to Start Shutdown and see the little update icon. Shutdown and restart. Do this maybe three or four times and it should work. Don't expect it to happen instantly. This seems to load them in the best order. Even if you get all the updates to showup in the Windows Update site, not all of them will install the first time. Some will fail. Takes a few tries. Once it is all done, you should be good.

However, I agree, MS is messing with Windows 7 users. Which is bad because many people think Windows 7 was the best one ever. The lack of Windows Media Center is what keeps me using Windows 7.

Just tried to check for updates and it's been checking for updates for 10 minutes now even though I have all updates installed already.
