Reformatted - No Sound?

Earlier today I reformatted my main C: drive under Windows XP. Sounds easy enough... pun intended.

My sound board (Which is integrated into my mobo) is no longer operative. I've tried looking for drivers (Under the device manager -> Sound, Video & Game Controllers, I see a "Legacy Audio Drivers" among other things) but to no avail. I've also looked for drivers for my VIA mobo, again to no avail.

I'm out of ideas. Any help is appreciated. I'm pretty sure I've left out vital information, so if you need more, ask me.

Edit: On another note: After the reformat, my internet connection has slowed to a crawl compared to my pre-format connection speed which was quick as a wink. The main reason for this reformat was the installation of a 120GB Seagate slave drive. My power supply, weighing in at 250W was not able to handle it, so I had to upgrade to a 450W. Just in case it's relevant.

OK!

1.Do you see and devices in device manager with a yellow excalmation mark?

2. what Service pack does your windows disc include?

3. Are you connect directly to the internet?

4. Do you run antivirus?

5. Do you run antispyware?

Hi, Never format unless you have all the drivers or know for sure where to get them. They were on the HD, but the format dumped them. If you built the system you probably have the drivers on a CD that came with the MB. Some time a recovery CD came with a proprietary Comp. If not go to the MB or chip set maker and download the needed drivers. Next time go to Device Manager or use System Information and write down the info on all your drivers and make sure you can get them. Good Luck, Jim

Installing a slave drive and a PS is no need to format. I would find the cd to the motherboard as mentioned or goto the motherboard maker's website and download the driver's package. Next time use a drivers saver program and then format.

Problem fixed...

I didn't find my mobo's CD but I did find compatible audio drivers for my VIA model (VT8571 - Apollo P4M266) online, and all is working fine now. The internet speed issue has also resolved itself; must have been Cox doing maintenance or something.

Thanks for the help guys 'n gals.
