it is no more necessary than posts about bush-gore, or affirmative action, or cars. this is off topic, EVERYTHING is fair game so long as it doesnt violate anyones rights.

you are definitly right, to each his own, im not trying to say ALL YOU PEOPLE MUST LISTEN TO THIS OR ELSE!!!! what im saying is, if you have a negative view of hiphop, at least give me one chance to persuade you. i really dont care if you like it or not, at least let me change your view, because it is incorrect. it is incorrect if you think all hiphop is gangsta rap, talking about sex, drugs, and murder.

Getting more green than that awesome dude saint patrick"

my view's incorrect?
first of all... the majority of this music is "gangsta rap," isn't it? second of all...it's not necessarily the lyrics that I (and probably other people) don't like...it's the actual music. I prefer real instruments to synthesizers and any other fancy tools used.

KidViciou$ it sounds like you are on a crusade.

Why bother to atempt to change anyone's mind? Well, maybe Ornery who seems to be off listening to hip hop somewhere. But if someone's mind is closed, it is closed.

I guess I am one of the rare older guys who really likes hip hop because I listened to it.

Hip hop doesn't need any defenders. It is growing and becoming more popular and someday it will be mainstream. Picture this (horror): it will be played in elevators someday!

all hip hop I've heard was repetetive patterns of beats and whines and other strange noises....point me in the direction of rap that is strictly instruments, and I'll listen to it. I'm not saying all of my music is strictly instruments, there is editing of course...but what you hear is instruments (guitar, bass, drums, etc.). Most rap/hiphop is made on a keyboard, is it not?

oh, and i guess a keyboard is an intstrument...but you get my point. not bashing your music, i don't care what you listen too...i was just explaining why I don't like that type of music.

I am not much of a hip hop fan but I can say that "The Roots" and "The Fugees"( not Wyclef on his own ) used a band on their albums and especially live. When it comes to hip-hop about the only thing I really like is old school stuff like: Run DMC, Erik B and Rakem, D.O.C., DJ Majic Mike.......

kami,

A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, The Fugees, The Hardcorps, Digable Planets, as well as others. Most of the rap you hear on the radio does not do this. Most of the rap you hear on the radio is also just commercialised noise. True hip-hop like most of the stuff I listen to, while they may not always play their own instruments, will use a jazz record as the beat. The album I listed in my first reply by Guru is the third in a series where he teams up with some of the best jazz artist out there like Junior Reid, Herbie Hancock and Donald Byrd. The majority of this music is not gangsta rap that is just the majority of what they play on the radio.

I believe I used the term rare correctly, Shuxclams. Not "only one" (although it seemed like that at some of the concerts I attended).

Can you picture Rap/Hip hop some day as elevator music? It is inevitable.

I am sorry Kami, but that argument against hip hop is as tired as "gangsta rap" thing that KV is always pissed about. Turntables are instruments, samplers are instruments, drum machines are instruments, as well are keyboards. However I don't know many producers who actually use keyboards aside from the utterly wack radio music. I know many who use piano's though. I don't really care if you like it or not, and I usually refrain from entering these little quibbles due to the fact that it's all pretty pointless.

As far as live instrumentation goes, you must check out The Roots. I have been to more shows than I can count (of all types of genres) and these guys are by far the best live act I have ever seen, (runners up include Ween, Phish, and Primus.)

Other notable acts that have live instrumentation that has been left out previously.
The Black Eyed Peas
The Goats <---- however they are broken up and if you are actually able to find their first album somewhere buy it and sell it on fleabay.

As far as new releases this week go, Reflection Eternal is very very good. But, it's not Deltron 3030. I cannot believe how good this album is. Dan the Automator on production, Kid Koala on the tables, and Del tha Funkee Homosapien on the mic. The music that these three put together is freaking amazing. I have had it going in pretty much constant rotation with Radiohead Kid A the last couple of weeks.

Tracks to listen to
Virus
Grey Matter

But it really is best when listened to from beginning to end.

/me wishes he had RE on this hard drive.
