I want to make sure i pick a good company to refi with. Ive read of some horror stories of home owners getting screwed out of their houses by some shady practices. I tried googling the name of a company I'm considering but perhaps there is a database of mortgage companies out there I can look through?

P.S. If anyone can recommend a refi company, please post or msg me. I'd like to research all possible angles before I close with one company Ive been working with.

Thanks

The individual loan officer is just as important. I used Wells Fargo when I bought my house last year. For the most part they get crappy reviews for mortgages. But this loan officer was highly recommended and in the end it was the correct decision. She was wonderful and the loan was done quickly. So, ask around locally as well and see what friends/family/coworkers have used.

Also had a great loan officer at Wells Fargo. Rates are pretty much the same everywhere so had no issues going with them.

Plus, a preapproval letter from them is gold when it comes to bidding (highly preferred, all things being equal). People view you as financially solid since WF is such a hard ass when it comes to vetting you.

I found a referral link at slickdeals for boxhomeloans and have nothing but great things to say about them.
They ended up selling my loan to wells fargo, which works for me as well.

I'm not sure it's worth bothering with. Every mortg loan or refi I've had was soon after transferred to some other company I never heard of in some other state.
