what was this "perfectly good story" in the game?

you can't seem to separate yourself from the game experience, which at the time was groundbreaking and frighteningly immersive, and the story of the game... which was quite unorginal. hell on earth? Little Nicky had that! and how old would shooting monsters over and over get? i'll tell you: 20 minutes and it's repetetive.

oh man, being a movie based on a game already made it a most likely crap movie and this just puts the nails on the coffin

Because they paid good money to use an established brand name that many people have already heard of. Look at freaking House of the Dead.

They alienated the computer people that grew up with Doom by completely switching the story line. Its ruined.

"Video Game" = "Kiddies"

If they made a movie out of a video game with all creations of hell in it, the country would be in uproar as to what the "Kids playing the video games" are being exposed to.

Even though my guess is that most people that have played that game through are not children.

The lack of any kind of 'Hell' connection is something of a kicker. Doom 2 was subtitled 'Hell on Earth', and the key plot point of Doom 3 is that the monsters in-game are Hellspawn, hence the multiple pentograms and such vile creations as dead-baby-cherub-wasp combinations.

A 'necessary' change, or a neat way to avoid right-wing criticism? We wonder.

I bet if Doom came out now it would be banned in the U.S.

Sad days indeed, first Cheerleaders covered up and censored and now this.

I hate Hollywood lately.

If a HL2 movie was made, the Combine would be replaced with zombies, and Gordon would be a bumbling scientist that accidentally saves the day.

Oh come on dude get a life. Hollywood would hack this story even if the D's were still in power and not a dying party.

Oh wait! Is this the part of the "Vast Right Wing conspiracy"???

Doom the movie is expected to hit the screen in August and is being directed by Cradle 2 the Grave director Andrzej Bartkowiak. Contrary to earlier reports by id Software, the film is indeed being developed by Universal Pictures and will costar Die Another Day's Rosamund Pike in a less villainous role.

Did anyone else see Qwest's post beside me?!?!?

If I had a choice between the Inquirer and Gamespot for news..............

As much as I hate to say it, I have to agree with the Republican defense on this one. Don't make me bring up the ridiculous story Hillary Clinton said about video games.

[edit] Oh yeah, and they better not do this to the upcoming Silent Hill movie.

Or that Tipper Gore was leading the way to censor music back in the 80s or that Joe Lieberman has been campaigning against video games for a number of years...
