Reference Drivers vs Specific Drivers

I have just purchased an Asus V7700 Pure, that uses the GeForce2 GTS chip set BTW.

What I was wondering was should I use the latest Asus drivers or the Detonator 3 drivers from NVidea (sp?) I'll be blunt, I'm not technically inclined, so I really don't know which would be the recommended set of drivers to use.

The only real reason I ask is because when I wanted to play Asheron's Call, I had to use 3dfx's voodoo drivers over Diamond's monster drivers. Otherwise, I'ld just use Asus' drivers.

Thanks,

I have a 3D Prophet II MX, and Hercules' drivers are NVIDIA 7.52, whereas the drivers on NVIDIA's website (the last official release) is 6.50 I believe.

Try your manufacturer's latest drivers, if those don't work or they give you poor performance, go with the NVIDIA drivers. If you want to get dangerous, you can try the beta and leaked versions of the NVIDIA Detonators. (I think the highest version is around 10 now!)

I agree ... go with the Asus first and if you aren't happy with the performance, try the reference. Take a look at the release date of the latest Asus drivers and see if it is after the detonator 3 reference release dates, you will probably find that the Asus current drivers are based on the detonator 3 drivers.
