Blech! Did anyone notice that some Reeses PB cups are made in Mexico? I thought it tasted a bit different and bland, so I first assume its an off batch. I look at the label and its made in Mexico. I dig through my kids candy bag and find one made in the good ole USA and one in Mexico... so we try a blind taste test. The USA one is very good and peanut buttery like they should be. I am calling Reeses customer line tomorrow when they are open. They either use shoddy peanuts in Mexico or they are full of some sort of filler... they are drier too.

Try them for yourself.. dig through your kid's Candy bags.
Did anyone else notice this?

there was a Snickers thread here too.. I wonder if those are made in Mexico too.

If the Mexican ones taste worse than the ones from the US, then they must truly be craptacular. I was complaining about one made in the US the other week in comparison to those that used to be made in Canada. This to me is the worst part of NAFTA. :'(

You've got NAFTA in my Peanut Butter Cups!:thumbsdown:

Hershey's has moved most of its production to Mexico..."The Great Un-American Chocolate Company."

Does it have milk chocolate or is it a chocolate substitute? Cuz iirc Hersheys switched to an oil based chocolate substitute.

digging through kid's Halloween candy is a right of parental passage.

I have a feeling Reeses has some plant in Mexico make PB Cups to stock up for a busy season like Halloween. I normally love PB cups but these Mexican ones are gonna save me thousands of calories over the next week.

oh, i know. I'll likely do it too. I just find it funny cause I know how many people talk about eating healthy on here. :p

It's kind of like how people bitch at fast food restaurants for not having healthy options, yet when they put them on the menu, nobody orders them. People talk plenty of shit about eating healthy, but I'm willing to bet most of them don't practice that.

I heard it was only 10% made from god knows where.

Either way, I don't understand it. If consumption of their products are decreasing, why would they need to "outsource" their manufacturing to Mexico?

Are people no longer willing to pay 1.25 for a candy bar?

Obviously they want to improve the bottom line by cutting operating expenses, but stuff like this back fires. Just an endless cycle of CEO's with 5-10 year terms and short term strategies. The next CEO who spews out the term sustainability can kindly shove it up their ass.

We already had a thread on whether Hershey still uses milk chocolate or not. They do in their products that say milk chocolate on them. The ones that don't say milk chocolate are the mix.

or how people hate attack/negative ads.

but the politicians use it because it works!

Edit:
And i'm the one that started the Hershey's chocolate thread mentioned above.

Now to find the link to it...

This is interesting because my experiences with foreign versions of American candies are usually the opposite. Just picked up some Canadian KitKats (made with dark chocolate) and they were fantastic. Cadbury Eggs from England (made with sugar) are miles ahead of the ones made in the States (HFCS).

It goes beyond just Sugar/HFCS. Europe has always preferred a different style of Chocolate than the US(or vice versa). I also think the Cultural differences between the 2 kind of go in opposite directions. Europe seems to trend towards Increasing Quality for Greater Profit, while the US seems to trend toward Decreasing Quality(aka Cost Savings) for Greater Profit. That's not to say that the Best of anything/everything is European, for that's not true, but you'll be hard pressed to find much acceptance for Degrading a Product as a Business strategy in Europe.

From my limited observations this seems to be true.
